Half way through my lecture phase:)

These last few weeks have been amazing. We started doing evangelism in week two. We went to the corner of a street full of people and started singing worship music and talking to people as they walked by. Here is a picture of us:

We have been learning so much. In week 2 we learned what it looks like to be a godly midwife, God's perfect design and framework (which was about the anatomy of women and baby), and learned how to take vitals (which are your blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, and temperature). During this week we learned how the midwives in the old testament were God fearing midwives and watched the movie Prince of Egypt to see what happened when the midwives did not fear the pharaoh and only God. It was really cool to see that movie with that in mind. It makes my wanting to be a God fearing midwife so much more possible. The lectures this week helped me so much in retaining the information that I have been trying to learn in regular University classes. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I am a learner of all three types: verbal, hearing, and hands-on learner. We do all three of these in all of our lectures. This week we also learned what it looks like to be an intercessor for God's Kingdom.

In week 3 we learned about Antenatal Care, ANC, and the urinary system & urine testing. This is during pregnancy care. These are all the check-ups that a mom should do while she is pregnant to make sure all is well with her and baby. With ANC comes a lot of things to know. It may seem so basic, but it is necessary to keep mom and baby safe and prepare them for delivery. We learned how to test blood to see if mom is anemic or not. I also learned how to palpate a woman's belly to check to see that where the baby is and to be able to hear the baby's heart rate. When we learned about the urinary system, we had to also learn how to do a urine test. We all had to practice on ourselves and then test it. Our teacher who taught on this was telling us how back in the old days when the strips to test the urine was not invented yet that they would taste it to see if it was sweet. Our teacher drank her's and said how sweet it was. We all got grossed out. Turns out it was just apple juice. She was just joking with us. She got me and I was shocked. I didn't think things like that would get me gagging, but it sure did. Afterwards we were laughing so hard about it. (Sorry if that grossed you out. I just thought I should share that with the world!) During this week we got to practice being pregnant and midwives running our own clinic. It was a lot of fun and we got into character really well.

Week 4 we did some more ANC clinic rotations. This time we got some pregnant women to help us out with the real thing. On Monday we learned how to crochet baby hats. We are learning this because our school leader got a vision from God bring hats to the babies of these countries as an outward action of putting a helmet of salvation for each child we deliver. So, we make them before we go out and we pray over them and then when we deliver a baby we will put it on the baby's head and pray for their protection over their life. I still need some special one on one help. We also got to learn about FGM, female genitalia mutilation, and fistulas that happen in developing countries and their effects on the women if they have them. It broke my heart watching what these women have to go through and how their thought process about themselves. I want to do something, but I don't know what I can do to help. All I can do for now is pray for them and when I come in contact with a woman with this issue inform her with truth. I got an opportunity to palpate a mother on base who was 38 weeks and 5 days old. It was so cool to feel her child within her womb and to be able to tell where the baby was positioned. She delivered on this last Monday, a healthy little boy. This week God showed me how he has directed my footsteps to this base into this school. It is cool to see that I am living in the purpose that God has called me to.

Also these last three weeks we had Island Breeze Brisbane visit our base for a meeting and to learn some dances for Mega Cities 2012. Here is a picture of them rehearsing:

Here is a picture of some of us watching them! It was so cool to see them practice.

Week 5 was my hardest week so far. We learned how to care for women at birth and what a normal labor and delivery looks like. Prior to this, we found out that we had 20 days from this last Monday to raise $6000 AUD for outreach fees. Then we found out all the homework we were going to have and it got me overwhelmed. We started this last week on praying and seeking God to show us a way to fund-raise and who we should seek to ask for support. This was our first week praying and this is what I felt God told me and he gave me two verses. The first was Psalm 23: 1-3 and the other is Psalm 25:3. The first one is about how God is my shepherd and he will not let me wither. He restores my soul. The other one is about how your hope in God will never be put to shame. So I felt these were telling me that God will be providing for me and that I need to put all my hope in him. I also need to obey all the small things he asks me to do and even the larger ones.

Last night some of the girls and I got to go to the beach and watch the sunset and grill burgers. It was so much fun and God even provided enough for us to invite two people to dine with us. We met this lady at the train station and she wanted something to do for an hour, but has never been here before. So we invited her to come along with us. She was super excited and wanted to take pictures of us throughout the night. Later on, her boyfriend called to pick her up and we invited him to come along as well and eat with us. Turns out he is a practicing Muslim from Egypt. He was breaking his fast for the day with us from Ramadan. It was super cool to see how God created such a divine appointment and we were able to show Christ love with them. After they left we worshiped under the stars and then headed home. Here is a picture from the sunset at the beach we were at:

This week we are learning about what it looks like to be unified as a team, about weaning foods for the baby, and how to chart the baby's growth and weight. It is going to be super amazing because the woman who helped pioneer the base with her husband will be speaking to us.

If you could just be praying for our school and all our finances to come in. On the 24th we will need to see $114,000 AUD come in! Some people may think this is not realistic, but God is good and he will be able to do this! I can't wait to share with you all the cool testimonies of how God provided for us!
